CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE NEWLYWEDS

What a year this has been! It seems as if we've had one thing right after another all year long. And if you're one of the many who had a wedding planned for this year, that just made things more complicated.

Our family did have a wedding planned. Our daughter and her boyfriend had been together for four years when he proposed to her in May of last year. And we were excited. This was a really good thing and we were going to have the most beautiful wedding we could plan-within budget of course.

We were already counting down. We booked a beautiful mountaintop venue three hours from home for June 7th. We reserved a huge lodge for both of our families to spend the weekend just celebrating and getting to know each other better. We had vendors booked and mostly paid off. My daughter and I were designing their wedding suite on Zazzle. Bridesmaids had ordered their dresses. We were doing great, ahead of schedule, and not really feeling stressed at all.

Then COVID19.

Everything just came to a screeching halt. We stopped planning because we knew the wedding probably wasn't going to happen. I canceled the lodge because we were still within the period of time when we could get a full refund, thank goodness. And we just sat frozen, not wanting to reschedule, but knowing that we were running a risk of people getting sick if we didn't.

We contacted the venue to see how much they were willing to work with us. No one plans for a pandemic. They said we could cut our guest list to 10 people or fewer (which was the rule at the time) or reschedule for 2021 on a weekday! What? We had paid for a weekend, and now we were going to have to take a weekday? Next year?

So to make a long story short, we had their wedding. We cut our guest list a lot. But we had their wedding, and it was beautiful. And now we have a much loved new son.
